We’re the Housing Energy Efficiency Team at Sheffield City Council.

We’ve since grown significantly from our beginning at the end of 2022, when we were a team of one staff member made to facilitate Sheffield’s Green Homes’ Local Area Delivery Grant.

We’ve secured, co-ordinated and delivered millions of pounds worth of grant funding to improve the energy efficiency of both private and social housing across Sheffield.

Our priority is making the future of Sheffield housing a greener place for all. Through maximising our opportunities to secure vital funding from a range of government grants, we continue to provide crucial support to homes in need across Sheffield.

Since 2022, we have delivered:

  • over 750 homes approved for energy efficiency improvements under the ECO4 Flex scheme, with a significant portion already completed
  • £585,000 of funding to fit 73 off-gas properties with modern energy efficiency solutions through the Home Upgrade Grant
  • £2.3 million of funding through the Green Home Grant: Local Authority Delivery 2 scheme; this fitted 207 private homes and 130 council homes with energy efficiency improvements
  • energy efficiency improvements to 195 council properties through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2.1
  • a landmark event for Sheffield through the annual ‘Warm Homes Sheffield: Live!’ event since 2023, which provides residents with face-to-face access to a wide range of energy and cost of living advice at the Town Hall

We also regularly provide energy efficiency and grant advice to homeowners, landlords and tenants through our contact points.

We know that to work towards our shared goal of Net-Zero by 2030, we need to work together to make Sheffield a greener city. This starts in the home.

2025

In the upcoming months, we’ll continue to promote and facilitate ECO4 Flex, in addition to delivering a combined £6.8 million pounds of funding across the Warm Homes: Local Grant and Social Housing Fund.

To make sure Sheffield remains on the cutting edge of energy efficiency, we’ll also be piloting innovative energy efficiency improvements to select houses, which will lay the groundwork for providing the city with the best opportunities to help fight the climate crisis.
