Social Housing Fund

In 2025, Sheffield City Council secured £3.4 million worth of funding from the Social Housing Fund to improve the energy efficiency of the Social Housing stock in Sheffield.

Over the next 3 years, Sheffield City Council will use it to improve over 1,450 homes with a range of energy efficiency improvements. This will make sure social housing tenants can continue to live in warm homes that do not harm the planet.

Our goals

As part of Sheffield City Council’s goals to reach Net-Zero by 2030, we’re committed to significantly reducing the carbon impact of our housing stock.

We have carefully considered the best approach to ensure the maximum impact is made on the widest possible housing stock, balancing carbon reduction with improved social value.

We want our social housing tenants to receive the same access to energy efficient housing as those in the private rental and homeownership sectors.

Receiving funding

Unlike the Warm Homes: Local Grant, you cannot apply for improvements through the Social Housing Fund. If your home is one of the properties chosen to receive improvements through the fund, you’ll be contacted by Sheffield City Council with the next steps to receive energy efficiency upgrades to your home.

What to do if your home is not chosen

Deciding which properties receive energy efficiency upgrades is complex and determined by many factors:

  • balancing carbon reduction
  • social value
  • current and predicted energy efficiency

If your home was not one of the properties chosen for this wave of improvements, there are other ways you can improve the energy efficiency of your home. We recommend getting in touch with organisations such as National Energy Action  and Green Doctor, which will be able to suggest small improvements you can make to build a warmer, greener home.
